Sunday Sales!

Thanks in large part to the upcoming holiday, there are so many good sales going on right now. I mentioned that I had already fallen victim to the Zara and Asos sales, but there are so many other good sales going on right now!

First, Anthropologie. I rarely shop at Anthro because they are priced a little too high for me, but when they have a sale, I am all over it!
1/2/3/4/5

Next, Loft, one of my current staples. They have sales all the time, which is really the only time I buy anything. This weekend they are offering an extra 60% off sale items, which means that it's practically free!

1/2/3/4/5

Next, Ann Taylor is offering 30% off everything with code SUMMERCHIC. This is definitely the time to buy something that you've been eying.
1/2/3/4/5

Then there's another one of my staples, Gap, which I feel has been pretty stingy with it's sales lately. I will never buy anything full price here, so I have been holding out for a good sale! Take an extra 30% off with code GAPSALE.

1/2/3/4/5

Last but certainly not least is, Tory Burch. Now, I am not a big TB person, mainly because I can't justify the price. But I am in the market for a new tote, and I am loving some of her's. So if I can find a bag I like already on sale plus the additional percentage off, I might just bite the bullet. Use code SUMMER for up to 30% off.

Friday Favorites No. 11

Today's Friday Favorite's is short and sweet. Since B was out of town again this week, I thought it would be nice to spend some time with him and not the blog when he got home. Hope y'all don't mind!!

FAVORITE RECIPE
Funfetti. Cake. Frosting. Ice Cream. Enough said. Thank you Style Me Pretty Living for the 5 pounds I will gain this weekend after I make this.

FAVORITE TWEETS
1) I love that Cookie Butter has it's own (unofficial) Twitter account. 2) Yes, I totally get it.

I find it super entertaining that celebrities still get star-struck when other celebrities tweet them.

FAVORITE OUTFIT
I am totally digging the cropped top trend. Not sure if I am brave enough to try it, but I do love how Kendi paired her striped cropped top and floral skirt.

FAVORITE SALE
There are so many good sales going on this week. I definitely took advantage of Zara's sale. But the one that I am most excited about is Asos. Here are a few things in my shopping cart:

1/2/3/4

What were some of your favorite things from the week? Link up, below! All I ask is that you follow my little blog on some platform (GFC, Bloglovin, Twitter, etc.) and that you link back and share the link-up with your readers!

Blog Lindsey vs. Real Life Lindsey

I'm starting to think that I am developing two separate personas. The Lindsey you know from reading the blog and then the real life Lindsey. Don't get me wrong, everything I post is authentic and honest, but I really only blog about the exciting weekends, successful baking experiments, the blog-worthy outfits, etc. There is a whole other side of my life that I don't blog about. Mainly because it would bore you!

For those of you that do not know me personally and read this blog regularly, here are some of the differences between the Lindsey you have met through the blog and the Lindsey you would meet in real life.

Blog Lindsey wears cute clothes, brushes her hair, and puts on makeup.

Real Life Lindsey works from home 3-4 days a week, wears workout clothes, sometimes doesn't shower, and definitely doesn't put on makeup unless she leaves the house.
...

Blog Lindsey loves to bake and and everything she makes turns out perfectly!

Real Life Lindsey likes to bake, mainly so she can eat the end result...even if they end up burned, undercooked, or funny looking.

...
Blog Lindsey is planning her dream wedding and enjoying every single second of it.

Real Life Lindsey would have eloped 12 months ago. But she sure does feel pretty in her wedding dress.

...
Blog Lindsey might be mildly outgoing, clearly willing to share her life with complete strangers.

Real Life Lindsey is introverted. She sometimes avoids people altogether and is occasionally embarrassed by her outgoing fiance.
...

Blog Lindsey is super sweet and will never say a bad word about anyone, except maybe Ann Hathaway and Nickleback. She will never get involved in any drama on Twitter.

Real Life Lindsey is not always that sweet, and can sometimes be a bit of a bitch, especially if she is hungry.

...
Blog Lindsey is politically correct. She will never discuss anything remotely political or controversial.

Real Life Lindsey has very clear (yet open minded) opinions about a number of very controversial topics that may surprise you.

...
Blog Lindsey is kind of a girly girl. She obviously likes to bake, loves to shop, has way too many shoes. She hates to camp.

Real Life Lindsey can be kind of a tom-boy. She grew up playing every sport under the sun, is involved in a number of Fantasy Football leagues, and can hold her own taking sports with the guys. She also hates to camp.

...
Blog Lindsey wants to be more like Pioneer Woman, Blair Eadie and Erica Domesk combined.
Real Life Lindsey wants to be more like the blog Lindsey.

The Classics

Sometimes I go through my closet and pull out items and think, "what the heck were we thinking?!" Remember those cropped gaucho pants from 7 or 8 years ago? That was probably a bad idea. I think the same thing about harem pants now.

But then there are those pieces that just never go out of style. I resurrected an old jean jacket from my closet yesterday. I almost threw it away a couple years ago!! I also bought my second pair of Jack Purcell Converse sneakers last year after owning a pair in high school. I mean, if you can wear something in high school and wear it 10 years later, it's pretty timeless.

That got me thinking of some iconic brands or pieces of clothing that will probably never go out of style as long as that item isn't is some crazy color or has lots of trendy embellishments.

The Jean Jacket: Then, Marilyn wore a dark denim with a fur collar. Now, the denim is a bit lighter, but they both have the same general style. The jean jacket may go out of style every couple years, but don't throw it away because it will come back.

The Wrap Dress: Then, Diane Von Furstenberg revolutionized the fashion world with her famous wrap dress. I bet your mom wore one back in the 70s. Now, Kate favors the wrap dress as she accommodates her baby bump.

The Trench Coat: Then, Audrey Hepburn wore a trench even when it wasn't raining. Now, Gwyneth wears a trench to run around town. A trench in a classic color, like khaki, will never go out of style.

The Ray Ban Wayfarer: Then, JFK rocked a pair of tortoise shell Wayfarers. You know who else had a pair? My dad. Now, David Beckham covers his beautiful face with a pair. You know something is a classic when JFK, your dad, David Beckham, and you all wear the same sunglasses.
The Sperry Topsider: Then they were marketed to dad's everywhere. Now they are a staple in any Southern frat house....and sorority house. Does your dad wear boat shoes? Thought so. Again, if you and your dad are wearing the same shoes, it's a classic.
As I get older I think to myself that I should really start investing in clothing. I keep hearing the term "investment piece" thrown around. These items are definitely "investment pieces". If you get a good quality trench coat now, and take care of it, you will heave it for years. And go ahead and get a DVF wrap dress. You will probably be able to wear it for years, and eventually it will be come 'vintage'.

What are some other classic pieces of clothing that would be worth investing in?

Peach Cobbler Cookies

I cannot tell you where the inspiration to make these cookies came from. It was practically out of the blue. I am not particularly a fan of peach cobbler. I have never made it before, never had the desire to make it, and when presented with the option of peach cobbler for dessert, I usually pass.
That being said, these cookies are wonderfully delicious. They just taste like summer. They are soft and moist, not too sweet, and have just a hint of cinnamon. I added a crumb topping which added a crunchy texture, which I love. It may not be your thing, so it can easily be replaced with just cinnamon and sugar.
I don't bake with fruit often, but when I do, I choose fruit that is just nearly ripe. Some people suggest using ripe fruit, but you don't want it too soft or too sweet because the cooking process will bring out the sweetness of the fruit and make it much softer. The peaches I used where just barely tender to the touch, but they weren't completely hard. The flesh had a little bit of give. If I were eating it raw, I would wait 1-2 days for it to soften up.

Summertime

I'm not sure why, but it doesn't quite feel like summer, yet

Oh wait, I know what it is! It's not 110 degrees outside. I certainly do not miss that about Texas.

1) Friday night, we spent the night juicing lot and lots of limes. So we could make 2) mojito sorbet. We learned a very important lesson: read the directions before using your new sorbet maker.
3) Saturday we went out wedding band shopping. For once, it was easier to find something for me than it was for B. Everybody and there mother was out looking for wedding rings on Saturday. We ran into 3 people we knew (we don't know that many people here) including Meredith and her fiance!
4) We followed up our shopping trip with 'This is the End', which is hilarious and I highly recommend it, as long as you don't mind inappropriate humor.
5) Sunday we decided to walk to lunch after church. It was nice and sunny on the walk there, and it was pouring on the walk back. Note to self, check weather forecast before walking anywhere.
6) I'm not sure what got into me, but I decided to make peach cobbler cookies. They are addicting and I am not even that big a fan of peach cobbler.
7) I made one of my eMeals recipes, which might be one of my favorites yet! Skirt steak with chimichuri sauce and asparagus.
8) We ended with weekend watching Pitch Perfect along with a glass of wine.

How was your weekend??

FAVORITE SONG
I'm kind of obsessed with this song by Robin Thicke. I keep telling B that we should play it at our wedding reception, and his response is always, "are you listening to the words?!?". Obviously not...but it's catchy!

FAVORITE POST
This week, one of my favorite bloggers, Amanda over at Rhyme and Ribbons shared some tips for being photogenic. As someone who has spent her fair share of time in front of a camera, she definitely has a great perspective and some great advice. I don't necessarily think of myself as being photogenic, so you know I learned a lot from this post.

FAVORITE RECIPES
It was really hard to pick just one recipe this week. I found so many that I want to try or at least aspire to try, like this Fiocchetti with Pear and Parmesan cheese pasta recipe from the Kitchn. Which sounds intriguing, but intimidating.
One recipe that is intriguing but a lot less intimidating is this watermelon pico de gallo recipe from the Pioneer Woman. I might be making it this weekend!
And as long we are keeping watermelon around, might as well make these watermelon basil mojitos from A Beautiful Mess.

FAVORITE BEAUTY TIP
Do you have thin hair, a dry scalp, or slow growing hair? Then this article from BellaSugar is a must read. I will be definitely looking into #1 on this list: supplements to help with hair growth. While I have very thick hair, it grows incredibly slowly.

FAVORITE OUTFIT
I almost bought this exact skirt from Asos last month but I had no idea when or how I would wear it. I love how Caitlin from A Little Dash of Darling styled this bright blue full midi skirt. It's so fun and summery, yet very polished.

Floral is the new Black

Dress: Zara, Shirt: Limited (similar), Shoes BCBG via DSW (similar), Sunnies: Cole Haan (similar)

Thanks to my trip home the week before last, and B's last minute trip to Dallas last week, we had hardly seen eachother in the last couple weeks. Fortunately, he was able to get an early flight home on Sunday and I him out on a, "Happy You're-Not-a-Father's Day", date.

He assumed that my motivation for going out was to just get out of the house since I had been cooped up all weekend. You want to know what my real motivation for going out was? This dress. I have been dying to wear it since I brought it home from San Diego.

Obviously, the floral print is what drew me in, but its also long enough that I can even wear heels. Its light weight and doesn't feel weighed down, but not sheer. It also has a wonderful back detail, which you can see here on Seersucker and Saddals

Zara is killing it for me right now. There are at least a dozen other things that I want to buy, but the purse strings aren't quite that loose. I guess it's good there isn't a store anywhere near me. But please don't remind me that they now have online shopping and ship for free. I do not need the temptation.

Never Ever Ever say Never Ever

There are a lot of things that I can say that I would never do, say, think, wear, etc. And then it turns out to be a total lie. But I can confidently say, with 98% certainty that I will NEVER....

....lay out in the sun and NOT wear sunscreen. I am so over being tan mostly because I don't want the wrinkles or the cancer.

...wear sneaker wedges. 1) I just don't understand the point of them, maybe because I am tall enough as it is, and 2) I'm just not cool enough to pull them off.

...get sick of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Love them. Could eat them every single day if I had to.

...be on a reality TV show. I mean, it's not like people are knocking down my door to film my life - it's not that interesting - but if it were to ever become interesting, I wouldn't do it.

...be able to whistle. It's just one of those things that I cannot do.

...take B for granted. At least I never want to and will work hard to make sure that doesn't happen.

What will you never ever ever do?
