Favorite Moments from 2013

B asked me the other day what my favorite moments were of the past. Of course the wedding and honeymoon were up high on the list, but I had to think a little to come up with all 5. After some reflection, I think I came up with a pretty good list.

Starting at 5....

5. Seeing our new apartment in Charlotte for the first time. We had to sign our lease sight-unseen so we really had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. After a very long day driving across half the country, we pulled into our new "home", and to say we were relieved would be an understatement. It took us a while to really make Charlotte our home, but it has been very good to us this year.

4. Either Baylor winning the Big 12 Championship or Baylor beating OU. Basically, my 4th favorite moment was Baylor's amazing season! I couldn't be prouder!

3. Sitting at a winery in Fredricksberg, TX with some of my best friends in the world for my Bachelorette. There is nothing better than time with good friends who you don't see very often. I had the best time at my bachelorette party and at our last stop we just sat around a table together drinking wine, eating cheese, and chatting. Perfection.

2. Laying on a beach in Aruba with no where else to go and nothing else to do. Our honeymoon was one of the best vacations I have ever been on. And it was exactly what we needed. A nice relaxing week on a beach, reading a good book and drinking cheap beer.

 

1. Standing hand-in-hand with my soon-to-be husband at the wedding alter. I was a nervous wreck before walking down the aisle, but once I got down there and was facing the beautiful San Diego Bay and standind next to B, I was at total peace and completely happy.

End of an Era

This past Saturday marked the end of an era. And it couldn't have ended in any bigger fashion.

10 and a half years ago I started my career at Baylor University. While I was excited to start college and experience a new part of the country, I wasn't totally in love with the school. I found the traditions silly, especially the customary "ehhhhhh, Sic 'Em Bears" cheer which was just down right embarrassing. You want to know what else was embarrassing? The football team. I think we went 3-7 my freshman year. I went to ZERO games. Zero. We were the laughing stock of the Big 12. The team all other schools booked for their Homecoming games.

It didn't take too much longer for me to fall in love with Baylor despite our pathetic football team. I even started going to games. It helped that tickets were free and we only stayed for a half, since we knew we were going to lose anyways. We did, however, have a great Women's Basketball team, Tennis teams, Track team, and Equestrian team (yes, Equestrian).

The best football game we had while I was there was the overtime win over Texas A&M. We rushed the field, tore down the goal posts and then walked them all the way to the President's house. B even has a DVD of the game, which was dubbed, Miracle on the Brazos.

I tell you this to paint you a picture of the Baylor football team that I knew. The team who never went to a Bowl game. A perenial loser. A team whose best player was the punter.

I tell you this to put in perspective how big, extrodinary, and unbelievable it is to me that my beloved Baylor is now the Big 12 Champion. The team that was consistently last in the Big 12, is now #1 and headed to a BCS Bowl.

So, like I said, this marks the end of an era. It marks the end (hopefully) that Baylor will be the doormat of the league. It also marks the end of an Era in the stadium the Bears called home for 64 years, Floyd Casey Stadium.

Saturday was the final game played by the Bears in "the Case". Next Fall they will move into their brand new stadium. Outside the stadium, they will erect a statue to some Baylor "legends", including the most current, RG3. The man who made Baylor relevant. One day, maybe in 2024 after he retires, they will also erect a statue of the man who is really responsible for this turn around, head coach Art Briles.

I am excited to see the era end. I am excited by the potential of the future. I hope this isn't a fluke and Baylor will be a consistent top 25 team. But who knows what will happen in college football. No matter what, I am always proud to be a Baylor Bear.

FAVORITE BLOG POST

Thanks to Meghan and her recap of her experience at the Texas Style Counsel, I found this great post by Elizabeth at Delightfully Tacky on how to take photos of yourself. This post is not just great for for all the burgoning fashion bloggers who don't have a photographer, but great advice on taking photos in general. I bet even if you don't blog or don't blog about your outfits there will be a time where you will want to take a picture of yourself and won't have someone to take your picture.

FAVORITE NEW SHOW
It's summer which means that new TV programming is limited. But there is one show that B and I can't get enough of, Comedy Central's Drunk History. It is exactly what it sounds like. People get drunk and talk about history. Tell me what's not awesome about that.

For the first time maybe ever, even when RG3 was there, Baylor is making lots of news...for the right reasons. There have been numerous articles written on this years team and our program that, quite frankly, scare the shit out of me. Don't get me wrong, they are all pretty flattering, but they scare me because now the expectations high. I like having low expectations and exceeding them. I like being the underdog. With that said, one of favorite articles is this one published over on Grantland.com.

Friday Favorites No. 7

This week was surprisingly wonderful! Not only was it short, thanks to the day off on Monday, but on Wednesday I got a little surprise at work! I showed up to a parking lot full of trailers and hallways full of weird equipment. After some digging, I figured out they were filming scenes for Homeland. Apparently this is not the first time they have used our office building as the CIA Headquarters. If you watch the show, you will be familiar with the explosion scene during a memorial service at the end of season 2. Well that was filmed in the atrium of our building, too.

Now on to my favorites...

FAVORITE DAY
Well, it was going to be Monday, but I have to give this one to Wednesday! Here are some stalker shots I got of the filming.

1. Mandy Patinkin, who plays Saul is the one on the right in the white shirt.
2. They transformed the bottom floor into the CIA Headquarters Lobby
3. The film crew in our office, literally right outside my office.
4. Mandy Patinkin and another actor right outside our office which is what they were filming.

FAVORITE OUTFIT
This outfit makes me wish I had a super chic office job instead of working at home where my daily uniform is pajamas sweats jeans and a t-shirt. Helena from Brooklyn Blonde looks super chic in this white suit. Plus it has tuxedo stripes, which I love.

FAVORITE RECIPE 
I love chai and I love scones, so how could I not love these white chocolate chai scones from Roots and Blossom. I will definitely be making these in the near future!

This was originally pinned as painting a scarf, but I think it would just be an awesome on a canvas and hung in the living room!

I haven't been watching the Voice, but being a Baylor Bear, I can't avoid hearing about the success of Holly Tucker. And the Baylor-sphere was all a twitter when she got Blake Shelton to do a "Sic 'Em Bears!"


FAVORITE SHOW 
This girl is super excited that Arrested Development is back. It took a few episodes for me to get into season 4 but Tobias reeled me right in.

Deep In the Heart of Texas

I am so exhausted from this weekend. Well, not just the weekend, but the whole week. Traveling in the middle of the week and getting very little sleep will do that to you. I tried to fit in a lot while I was in Texas. I got to see quite a few friends as well as make trips to Waco and West and catch a hockey game.

1. After work on Friday I did a little shopping inspired by the JCrew Factory store sale.
2. I also visited with one of my friends from grad school and her dog, Ace, who clearly missed me. 
3. Saturday morning I drove down to Waco to have brunch with one of my bridesmaids.
4. I couldn't help but walk around campus to enjoy the beautiful weather and remind myself how old I am (these 19 year old freshman look like babies!).

5. On my way back to Dallas, I couldn't help by stop in West and show some support.
6. What better way than to support the local economy and picked up some delicious kolaches from the Czech Stop (as well as drop off a donation for the local fire house)!
7. Saturday night I got to go to a Stars game as part of a work event, which means I pigged out on free food.
8. I kept it super casual and comfortable on my flight back to Charlotte on Sunday morning. Keds, baggy jeans, and a sweatshirt.
9. I typically don't buy gossip magazines when I am flying, but I couldn't stay resist the Today Show drama!

Disappointing Ending

Sorry for the depressing post title. I am writing this after the very disappointing end to the Baylor-Louisville women's basketball game. In case you don't pay attention to women's basketball, Baylor - my alma mater, defending National Champions, and favorites to win it again this year - lost by 1 point to Louisville. Granted, Baylor was down by as much as 19 points and really didn't play like they wanted to win, but I am disappointing and heartbroken nonetheless. If you are a Louisville fan, I apologize. I probably said some mean things about your players in the heat of the moment. But you guys definitely deserve the W, and congrats!

Anywho...the rest of the weekend was much less disappointing. 

1-3. Friday I printed off our save the date cards, and with the help of a little wine and ice cream, we got them all cut and stuffed.

4. Saturday, I braved blinding the world with my pasty white legs and broke out the shorts!
5. B and I went for a walk around town and found ourselves at the Mint Museum. We felt so cultured.
6. We found the inspiration for the art we bought a couple weeks ago.
7. After our walk around town, I ended the day, at 4pm, with a mimosa.

8. Sunday we celebrated Easter by going to Church in the morning and having dinner at a friend's house.
9. I really loved my Easter outfit. More on that on Wednesday.
10. For the Easter dinner, I made a ricotta cheesecake, which was delicious! I will post the recipe later this week, as well!

Human Fanny Pack

Can we talk about much this Spring Forward nonsense messed with things? I was exhausted all day yesterday and half of my clocks were wrong, so I was never sure what time it was. Don't get me wrong, I am happy that the sun sets a little later now, but I was too tired to really appreciate it yesterday.

Here are some highlights from the weekend:

1. I put my new Kate Spade bag to good use this weekend!
2. My nails got a much needed clean up and polish. I talked myself out of a professional manicure and instead bought myself some new nail polish.
3. I made brown sugar biscuits for  breakfast for our friends who stayed with us on Friday night.
4. On Saturday, B and I headed to the farmers market and came home with some new art for out wall.

5. We went on a walk to Liberty Park and soaked up some sun. The weather was beautiful this weekend!
6. B made me watch Roadhouse on Saturday night. I turned it into a drinking game: every time someone got punched in the face, we had to drink. So basically we were constantly drinking.
7. We caught both Baylor basketball games this weekend! The RG3 was on hand in Waco to watch the men kick some Kansas butt. The Lady Bears let OSU get a little to close for my comfort, but pulled out a W.
8. I got my Mario Badescu samples in the mail! I took some before pics and hopefully in a couple weeks I will be able to see a big difference in my skin.

Can we also talk about how amazing SNL was this weekend. I literally scheduled my Saturday night around SNL. JT is probably the best host from my generation. And it was awesome that they brought in some of the other iconic hosts, like Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin, and Tom Hanks. Then, once Jay-Z joined Justin for Suit and Tie, B got overwhelmed. It was just too much start power for one episode.




Stefon has to be my favorite character from the past few seasons. Watch to see where this post title comes from.
